Definition:Technology

Technology
Technology, the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science (Dictionary.com). To me technology is defined as objects or a way of thinking that will make tasks and everyday life easier. Technology is human nature and is a reason why; we are where we are today.
Throughout time man has always been fascinated with new items that benefit us or that give us the upper hand on nature, from the first cave men, to where we are now, to the future, we will always have the need to improve our way of living, through the improvement of technology. When you first think of the word caveman you may think dumb or brute but the caveman was the first to discover technology, with the creation of the first clothing over a hundred thousand years ago (wikipedia.com). As well the first ever pottery or bowls were created about 30,000 years ago, things that we don’t really think of as being technology was once a great invention, but as newer technologies were produced the discovery was less glorified. Such as, now we take advantage of the technology we have, when people hear the word technology they may think of electronics, microchips, or computers, but this meaning changes through time, it used to be that there were no such thing as laptops or iPods, that the big thing might have been clothing, but each generation has its own interpretation of what technology is. Nowadays people think of laptops, iPods, or Blu-ray T.V. as technology, which is way different than what it used to be, and in the future people will forget about these inventions and focus on superior devices. When I think of future technology I picture Star Wars technology, where we can travel from planet to planet in spaceships or where we will have laser blasters or light sabers as weapons, and instead of nuclear missiles we will have the “death star”. Whatever the invention, whatever the time, the one thing that defines technology is the people.
Society has been impacted from technology immensely, without technology there is a chance we wouldn’t be standing here now. One case that sticks out in my mind is the first ever vaccine. In 1798 a scientist by the name of Edward Jenner discovered that when he injected cowpox into a person, that they became more immune to smallpox, his technological break through in immunology has saved more lives than all other scientists. His discovery changed the face of our society and the way we live, he made way for more discoveries in his field (About.com). Another more recent discovery has been the Internet, the Internet has molded our way of living and thinking, if you don’t know certain information you can go on the web and look up multiple sites on the subject. This has allowed the people to be more informed about the events that are happening around the world. However there are those certain people who refuse to use technology for one reason or another, such as the Amish, these people still go through life and enjoy it, but they don’t have those extras that people are used to having, like TV or computers. They still receive information and still have contact with people outside of their villages; the only difference is they don’t use technology.
In my life I am in contact with technology non-stop whether I am at school or in my house I am constantly around it. First of all, to get to school I drive a car to a place of learning each of which is a type of technology. When I get into school I see cameras, computers, desks, windows, tables, all of which you may not think are technology but, they are. I also have a class devoted to this certain subject where I learn the basics to using items such as the laser engraver and computers. At home I come in contact with technology, like television, computers, the X-box, my cell phone, and my iPod, all these impact my life greatly. Without these technologies I don’t know where I would be, I may be ill educated and ignorant or just flat out bored.
Technology is always changing and is always moving forward, we are on our way to a future where new technologies await and every generation will change the meaning of the word technology, bringing with them new more productive inventions, to change the world. “Technology does not drive change… it enables change” (Thinkexist.com). Without the advancement in technology we would never have advanced through time, without it we would be nothing, do you really think we would be where we are today if we didn’t have technology?Bibliography:

RHS ALUMNI SCHALORSHIP

Daniel Polverari

I can say with great accomplishment, that I was named the “Coolest Kid in School” by my second period Speech class. I was given this honor because I gave the most astonishing speech about why I am the “Coolest Kid.” I guess the class agreed with me when I told them that their coolness value could not compare to mine. This is what makes me differ from a normal engineer, although I love math and I am very good at it, I also like other classes like Speech and Debate.

School has been one of my biggest concerns and a strong point in my life. High school in my mind is very important if you wish to succeed in life, high school is the support beams of my building, without which you cannot hope to build new stories or grow. My whole high school career I haven’t focused on one single area, I have been open minded about other subjects that I have been interested in. School is an important part to succeeding in life and is an essential to me, as the support beams of my building.

I’ve had many influential people in my life but the two that have always been there, that have always helped me, has been my mom and dad. Since Civil Engineering is my passion, I relate my parents to being my strong foundation and support to my whole life or in this instance my building. My mom has been there for me giving me helpful advice and stressing the importance of college. My dad has been the person who first got me interested in engineering; and as an engineer himself, I always saw what he was doing, and it interested me, and it’s for this reason that I started to research engineering as my future. Each of them has contributed to me, each in a way has taught me how to be a good student and how to excel in life, and it is for this reason that I consider them my foundation for life.

My goal is to achieve an outstanding education in the field of Civil Engineering, at Colorado State University. I currently have already been accepted and have confirmed with them that I will be going there. My future as a person and as a student is still a little shady, but what I do know so far is that I will be attending CSU for Civil Engineering. I have already filled out all the paper work and I have already been accepted to live in the academic village, where only a select few of students may stay. After college I hope that I can start laying blueprints out and building for major companies. This can only happen with the right education, and for this I need some help financially with college and it is for this reason that I ask for this scholarship.
Throughout my life I hope to achieve and excel in engineering, I want to create plans for many buildings that will last a life time. I hope to leave a lasting impression on the world by means of the buildings I create.

While in school I have achieved a lot, I have held a 3.7 GPA throughout high school, as well I have been on the baseball team for four years. These and many other activities out of school like volunteering and youth group, has helped me become a member of National Honor Society, where I am the only male member, these achievements also gave me a chance to participate in Boy’s State. School is an important part to succeeding in life and is an essential to me, as the support beams of my building.

Most people think of an engineer as someone who cares solely about the maths and sciences; however, as an aspiring engineer I am interested in other classes too. Not only am I interested in the Liberal Arts but I am also very fond of baseball.

I can say with great accomplishment, that I was named the “Coolest Kid in School” by my second period Speech class. I was given this honor because I gave the most astonishing speech about why I am the “Coolest Kid.” I guess the class agreed with me when I told them that their coolness value could not compare to mine.
